How to play MIDI .mid files in Windows 10

1. Open this link and save the download file to a folder
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/db4y0l478l4v4b5i7vddf/GeneralUser_GS_1.472.zip?rlkey=8qayemzudropfey357hccn3ce&st=7lbhve6a&dl=1
( for more sf files go to https://www.schristiancollins.com/generaluser.php )

2. unzip the downloaded zip file, find the .sf2 file

3. VLC > Tools > Preferences > (top menu ) Input/Codecs , (bottom ) select All radio button > (left pane ) Input/Codecs >Audio Codecs > FluidSynth , SoundFont file ,
click Browse button, specify the downloaded .sf2 file

4. (optional ) if you want to output to other MIDI device, then VLC user interface > Audio > Audio Device ( hopefully you can change output device here )
